Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful meteorites ever found, the Fukang meteorite was found near Fukang, China, in 2000. Pallasites of this class make up just 1% of all meteorites and the Fukang outshines all others. Pieces of this meteorite are so valuable that specimens as small as a single gram sell for as much as $30-$40. In 2008, the largest portion (925lbs) sold in auction for $2 million.
This meteorite has olivines found throughout the mass that vary in shape from round to angular with many being fractured. These range from <5mm to as big as several cm and the main pallasite contains several regions of “massive” olivine clusters up to 11 cm in diameter with thinner metal veins.
